Meet one of our CrossFitters, Brett Shear!!

Comments From CFV:
From day one Brett has been the epitome of what it means to be a CFV athlete. Her very first day, just minutes after introducing herself, she was cheering people on by name while they worked out and even stayed late to encourage the next class. She has a passion for improving her form, range-of-motion, strength, and just all-around fitness that shows in the results of all of her workouts. When she has a day that is disappointing to her you will see an extra push and work ethic the next day to make sure it doesn’t happen again. Brett has already made huge improvements all around since joining CFV a few months ago, and we can’t wait to see where she is in another year or so. Her competitive drive, willingness to learn, and passion for improving combined with her magnetic personality are all big parts of the recipe for molding an awesome athlete and person.
How long have you been CrossFiting?
I started Crossfitting in the beginning of November and I’ve been obsessed ever since.
What goals have you achieved?
When I started at CFV I told Jose and John I wanted to be leaner and fitter. Without any actual numbers to back this up, I punched new holes in my belt last week. Who knows, maybe the belt stretched. More than that, I feel better about myself after I Crossfit. I also enjoy perfecting the movements. I struggle with the movements sometimes and when I can break them down and fix problems it’s satisfying. It’s like I win a little battle every time I overcome a bad habit.
What are your future goals?
I want to continue working on the movements I have trouble with. They are the skeletons in my closet; there’s a few too many to list. I also started a fully Paleo diet TODAY. Yikes. I’m excited to see how it changes my workouts. Further, Faster, Harder. Id like to think about doing a half, marathon, or Triathlon in my lifetime. Hopefully. Oh, and those pesky double unders…
What are you most proud of as a CFV Athlete?
I am proud of myself for showing up! Some days I really would just rather get in bed but I drag myself to the box knowing it will make me feel better and be better in the long run. I can say that a handful of workouts were more mental battles than physical ones. Finishing those workouts are hugely rewarding.
What is your favorite thing about Cross Fit Victorious?
The People! I say this constantly to Non-crossfitters! My love of the CrossFit program is half obsession with the workouts and half the support from the family. I love the community, the energy and the support from the other athletes and of course the trainers. It wouldn’t be the same if everyone wasn’t a part of it.
What other fitness related activities do you participate in outside of CF?
Most everyone knows I ride horses for a living. I ride show jumpers and show hunters. I was always a very active person. I did the boot camps, the personal training, the running, but none of it stuck with me like CrossFit has. I choose to be active for several reasons, the most significant being that I rely on my body to do my job so I have to take care of it. I like to hike with my dog too.
Least favorite Bench Mark “Girl WOD or Movement? Why?
I can’t say I have a least favorite because anything I hate doing I just wish I didn’t hate and I want to do better. ok that’s a lie. Power Cleans are my weakness right now.
Favorite bench mark “girl” WOD or movement? Why?
I am pretty happy with how “Cindy” went today; it utilized my whole body. I’ll pay for my 18 (almost) rounds tomorrow. Favorite movement would have to be the wall climbs and “skin the cat” that I learned a few days ago.
Any other comments:
I have to thank everyone for welcoming me in to the family. I only moved to Houston in October, but from the first time I walked into the box I was hooked and it’s because of each and every person that contributes to CFV. A friend once asked me why I was helping with all the moving and renovating projects. Without even thinking about it I knew it was because it is “our” gym. The athletes and trainers are what make the box such an amazing place; not just the great Crossfit program. Jose, John and Kelley – you all kick my butt on a daily basis and I wouldn’t have it any other way. This goes for all the other athletes too, that cheer me on daily. Thank you all for making me take it to the next level every time I step into the box.
