Meet our January CFV Athlete Freddie Abalos!

Comments from CFV:
Freddie has been with us since day 1 when we opened our doors on July 3, 2010. He has shown great dedication and consistency with his training. His character and friendly attitude make him fun to be around. His personality and determination bring are a great addition to our class atmosphere. We are looking forward to seeing him continue to grow as an athlete with us.
How long have you been CrossFiting?
I have been crossfitting since October of 2009
What goals have you achieved?
I didn’t really have many goals at first…I really just wanted to finish the workouts period at the beginning. This type of exercise was a challenge in itself and I was glad to be able to do them at all. Learning all the movements was a goal I had at first…I didn’t concern myself with having the fastest time but just to complete each movement in proper “full range motion”… I finally did kipping pull ups in a WOD…still use a band sometimes but I can do them.
What are your future goals?
My future goals are still to do each movement in proper “full range of motion”. My flexibility is not very good (probably because my upper body is so massive), so I need to improve that this year. Anything “overhead” is tough for me because of this so I will be checking out the mobility things available to us on the website much more often. My constant goal is to look better which leads to feeling better physically and mentally…Nutrition is going to be at the forefront for me…Glad I have a wife that keeps me straight in this category. Also I need to get my double unders to where I can do at least 20 without stopping.
What are you most proud of as a CFV Athlete?
One thing I am proud of as a CFV athlete is seeing my name on the leaderboards. Not bad for an old man.
What is your favorite thing about Cross Fit Victorious?
My favorite thing about CFV is an easy one. This gym is one that I would recommend to anyone. Simply put… here at CFV, YOU are important to the owners and trainers. The genuine concern for each athletes fitness goals are very sincere and I like that. Plus the athletes are awesome people to be around. The WOD’s are brutal but fun, because of the support all the athletes have for each other. I look forward to the tough WOD’s because I know someone will be there that will pick me up when I need it.
What other fitness related activities do you participate in outside of CF?
My job can be pretty physical sometimes. I have to carry a pretty heavy ladder and I can definitely tell that it has gotten much easier since I started crossfitting. I believe my overall physical fitness is getting much better since I started doing this crazy stuff. I also play golf whenever I can. I may have picked up a few yards on my driving distance off the tee box as well. (just wish I could hit it straighter)
Least favorite Bench Mark “Girl WOD or Movement? Why?
My least favorite Bench Mark “Girl WOD” is definitely ” Nancy “. The overhead squats kill me everytime. I am happy to just improve my time from the previous one each time we do it.
Favorite bench mark “girl” WOD or movement? Why?
My favorite Bench Mark ” Girl WOD ” if there is such a thing as a favorite is ” Helen “. This workout is awesome and really lets me know how my hard work has paid off with each improving time.
Any other comments:
Thanks to CFV for not just being great trainers but being great friends as well. It is such a blessing to have all of you in our lives. Thanks Jose, John, Rachael, and Kelley for everything you do for me and my family. ” Tito hand me some tissue “., not all of you will get that but it’s pretty darn funny.
